Slow breathing

Calm · Seated · about 50 seconds · Updated 25 September 2026

Slow breathing paces your breath at about six breaths a minute: in through the nose for four seconds, then out slowly for six. A minute of it is a calm reset between tasks, and in the app a circle expands and contracts to guide the rhythm.

The slow breathing as the Posture figure demonstrates it. The pink glow shows the area it works.

How to do the slow breathing

  1. Sit comfortably, shoulders relaxed.
  2. Breathe in through your nose so your belly moves out.
  3. Breathe out slowly through pursed lips.

What it works

  • Breathing
  • Relaxation

How long and how often

In a Posture break it's about 50 seconds of steady movement, about 55 seconds in total, as part of the Discreet, Breathe breaks. It's meant to be repeated through the day in short breaks rather than done once; doing it regularly matters more than the exact timing.

Tips

  • In for 4, out for 6
  • Shoulders stay still
  • Stop if light-headed

Move gently, in a comfortable range. Stop if you feel sharp pain, numbness, tingling or dizziness.
